Several comets will be visible from Earth in 2027. The most notable prospects for northern and southern hemisphere observers include 2P/Encke (early 2027), C/2024 T5 (ATLAS) (visible in early-to-mid 2027), and C/2025 Y1 (ATLAS) (expected mid-to-late 2027).2P/Encke: A short-period comet that loops into the inner solar system, expected to reach peak brightness in early 2027. Track its precise location using the Aerith Visual Comets guide for the Northern Hemisphere.C/2024 T5 (ATLAS): This comet will continue its trajectory, crossing into the northern and southern evening and morning skies in the first half of 2027. You can monitor its progression on the Aerith Future Comets (Southern Hemisphere) page.C/2025 Y1 (ATLAS): Making its closest pass to Earth and the sun, this comet is projected to reach naked-eye or strong binocular visibility around June–September 2027. Its highly specific daily tracking paths are published in the Cambridge Astronomy Future Comets table.Comet 22P/Kopff is forecast to reach the brightest point in its 2028 apparition on 5 July. At that time, it will lie at a distance of 1.47 AU from the Sun, and at a distance of 0.45 AU from the Earth. From Mountain View on 5 July it will be visible between 22:47 and 04:22.On Friday, April 13, 2029, a massive near-Earth object called Asteroid Apophis will safely skim past Earth at a distance of just 20,000 miles (32,000 km). This is closer than many telecommunications satellites and will be an incredibly rare celestial event visible to the naked eye.The next notable celestial visitor is Comet C/2025 R3 (PanSTARRS), which is currently making its way through the solar system. It gained significant buzz as the "Great Comet of 2026" and will be well-placed for stargazing in late 2026.
